Alexis Sanchez wants Arsenal to ‘show confidence’ in him through new deal

Alexis Sanchez insists he’s happy at Arsenal but that his contract negotiations will depend on whether the club wants to “show confidence” in him.
The star striker has yet to sign a contract extension with the Gunners and is reportedly holding out for an offer of more than £200,000 a week — a deal that would shatter the club’s current wage structure.
Sanchez, who is also being tempted by a mega-rich offer to move to China, addressed the talks for the first time in an interview with Sky Sports on Friday, and said the ball was in Arsenal’s court.
“It really doesn’t depend on me so much as it does the club, if they want to show confidence in me,” Sanchez said. “I’m very happy at the club. I love It here, I love all the staff, I love the coaches, I love all the employees who work for us. I’m very grateful for everybody here. As I say, I’m very happy so it depends more on Arsenal.”
Sanchez and playmaker Mesut Ozil are both in the same boat as their contracts expire in 18 months and Arsenal are desperate to tie them down to long-term deals. So far the contract talks have stalled with both players, though, and manager Arsene Wenger made it clear at his press conference earlier Friday that he was tired of talking about the situation.
Sanchez joined the Gunners in 2014 and is enjoying his best season so far after being redeployed as a central striker, with 12 goals and five assists in the Premier League so far.
He quickly established himself as a fan favourite at the Emirates because of his relentless work ethic, and said he appreciates the supporters’ passion.
“I enjoy the relationship with the fans. They go to the stadium every game, they fill up the stadium, they are outside the stadium,” he said. “They’re cheering, they’re really passionate, and I really love that. I want to win, and I want to achieve my objectives more for them. So I want to win the Premier League with Arsenal and the Champions League.”
