Music: Wyclef Jean – Fela Kuti

The brilliance and influence of human rights activist, political maverick and afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has remained as potent after his death as it was while he was alive – some might say, even more so.

Which explains why Wyclef Jean’s latest single off his forthcoming album, Carnival III: The Fall and Rise of a Refugee, is an ode to the late icon – well, the song’s title is anyway.

While Wyclef’s heart seems to be in the right place and Supah Mario’s production is impressive, the song itself is disappointingly shallow and has little to do with Fela himself – save for the song’s tile and the throwaway line “dance like Fela Kuti”.
